16/10/2023 - Message from Emmanuel Trizac to ENS de Lyon communities.

Dear Colleagues and Students,

Three years after the assassination of Samuel Paty, the educational community was once again struck in the heart in a school in Arras.

As a tribute to Dominique Bernard, the French teacher who was killed because he was a teacher, and to the two other victims who were injured in the attack, in support also of their families and in solidarity with the entire educational community, we will be joining in a minute of silence at 2pm today in all schools and rectorates.

If you are present in the school today, you are invited to gather in the courtyard of the Descartes campus or between the two entrances to the Monod campus, allée d'Italie. If you are not on campus, wherever you may be, join us in paying homage to Dominique Bernard at 2pm.

Our republican Schools have already paid a heavy price to blindness and fanaticism. Our school was created to build and nurture the ambition to emancipate individuals through knowledge. Today more than ever, we owe it to ourselves to defend its values and missions. May knowledge and reason overcome ignorance and madness.

Emmanuel Trizac,
President of ENS de Lyon
