The ceremony
Not only is the "Post Western Sociology in Europe and China" Associated International laboratory celebrating its 6th anniversary this year, but ENS de Lyon has also had the honor of awarding its co-director, the sociologist, Li Peilin, the insignia of Doctor Honoris Causa.  Li Peilin, professor of sociology and Vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences needs no further introduction. The room was packed with people who had come to support him. Laurence Roulleau-Berger, research director at the CNRS, praised him for his work in the role they both share, as co-founder and co-leader of the LIA Post western Sociology in Europe and China.
The ceremony was punctuated by musical interludes performed by Thierry Miroglio. For the occasion, works by the Franco-Chinese artist Xu Yi had been chosen: Liao and Ox.
Li Peilin

Li Peilin took his rightful place next to Jean-François Pinton, president of ENS de Lyon, on the one side and Laurence Roulleau-Berger, on the other. The president handed him the insignia and the Diploma of Doctor Honoris Causa on behalf of ENS de Lyon and his fellow sociologist gave a speech in his honor.
Following the honorary doctorate ceremony, Laurence Roulleau-Berger received the Maurice Courant award.

Jean-François Pinton gave Laurence Roulleau-Berger, research director at the CNRS, the Maurice Courant award at a ceremony held at the new Franco-Chinese institute. This award was given to her by the New Franco-Chinese Institute, and the CNRS Institute of Human and Social sciences and ENS de Lyon in recognition of her scientific research, leading to the creation of the International "Post Western sociology in Europe and China" laboratory that has helped strengthen the privileged link between Lyon and China. Sylvie Demurger, on behalf of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of the CNRS, spoke about the role of Laurence Roulleau-Berger in the creation of the 1st LIA in Humanities and Social sciences in China: "The initial idea was to exchange ideas of researchers in Chinese and French contexts, which were obviously very different, to analyze the methods of production of scientific knowledge and their deployment over time, in a global context of acceleration and the circulation of knowledge. Research is sociological, but it is also epistemological and methodological”. The Maurice Courant award is recognition of Laurence Roulleau-Berger’s exemplary work and the exceptional cooperation she has been able to put in place to develop, in association with Professor Li Peilin and their teams, a new sociological reflection.
