On September 11, Bernard Lahire will receive the insignia of Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Veracruz.
The University of Veracruz - one of the largest universities in Mexico, with more than 70,000 students - will award the honorary doctorate insignia to Bernard Lahire, professor at the ENS de Lyon.
The solemn award ceremony will take place as part of the university's 75th anniversary (1944-2019) on September 11, 2019 at 6 p.m. at the Tlaqná Cultural Centre, located in the city of Xalapa, Veracruz State.
The French sociologist has only visited Mexico once but his sociological works (books and articles) have been translated a lot into Spanish by Argentinian and Mexican publishers.
Professor José Alfredo Zavaleta Betancourt - of the Instituto de Investigaciones Histórico Sociales - nominated the French sociologist. They had never met before. Bernard Lahire was only informed of the decision once his application had been validated: "I only knew all this after the decision of the University General Council of the university, I was of course very honoured".
The day before Bernard Lahire will give a lecture, for postgraduate students, entitled "Pour une sociologie dispositionnaliste et contextualiste".
It will be delivered in French and translated into Spanish on September 10, 2019 at the University of Veracruz.
It is too early to say if Bernard Lahire's latest book, Enfances de classe, released on 29 August, will be translated into Spanish...
