The local final of the international Francophone competition “My Thesis in 180 Seconds” was held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the University of Lyon. Among the 12 finalists selected were four doctoral students working in a laboratory at ENS de Lyon: Victor Boschetti (CIRI, Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1), Garance Donzé (LGL-TPE, Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1), Noémie Dumont (IHRIM, Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3), and François May (LBMC, Université Gustave Eiffel). Among them, Noémie Dumont stood out by winning the jury’s second prize! We extend our heartfelt congratulations to her!

“Chess on the Iberian Peninsula during the Renaissance (1475–1575)”

Noémie Dumont is an agrégée in Spanish and holds a Master’s degree in Hispanic Studies from ENS de Lyon. She is currently working on her PhD thesis at Université Lyon 3 on the topic: “Chess on the Iberian Peninsula during the Renaissance (1475–1575),” a topic she defended with passion and pedagogical skill in this competition, which recognizes excellence in eloquence, synthesis, and the popularization of academic knowledge before a diverse, non-specialist audience.

On her way to the regional finals of the competition

Thanks to this performance, Noémie Dumont has qualified for the regional finals of the competition, alongside Chloé Chave (Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, LBTI laboratory), who won the jury’s first prize and the audience award for her thesis “The role of the KIAA protein in the mechanobiology of human keratinocytes and in skin aging.” The jury’s third prize was awarded to Virgile Daunay (Université Jean Monnet Saint-Étienne, DDL laboratory) for his thesis “Nonverbal vocalizations: a missing link? A study of the evolutionary functions of vocal control.”

The regional final of “My Thesis in 180 Seconds” will be held by mid-May 2025. It will allow the two winners to advance to the national final in June 2025, which in turn serves as a qualifier for the international competition in the fall of 2025.
