The startup Alice & Bob has been selected as part of the European Innovation Council's Accelerator call for proposals.

Since its inception in 2024, the Nanomer project—which brings together European and Latin American institutions focused on nanoscience—has given rise to several initiatives in both education and research. Here’s a look back at the activities in which ENS de Lyon participated in 2025-2026 and at upcoming projects.

ENS de Lyon, the CNRS, the University of Lyon 1, and IFP Énergies nouvelles announce the launch of the Labcom ERACLECE (Rational Exploration of Catalysts for the Circular Economy and Process Decarbonization).

The institutions of the ComUE Lyon Saint-Étienne have outlined their joint scientific strategy, with the announcement of two new interdisciplinary thematic institutes and two disciplinary coordination networks. This strategy is based on a dual disciplinary and interdisciplinary approach, with the aim of creating solid disciplinary foundations in both training and research and establishing networks designed to foster innovative scientific approaches to major societal challenges.

Léa Chazot Franguiadakis, researcher at LPENSL, and entrepreneur Typhaine Brual, incubated at ENS de Lyon, are among the winners of the French Government’s Innovation Competition, in the i-PhD category, which supports the development of emerging start-ups.

The 4MOST instrument, installed in Chile on the European Southern Observatory's (ESO) VISTA telescope and developed largely by teams from the CNRS, Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, and ENS de Lyon, has just achieved first light. This first ray of light from space, analyzed by the instrument's spectrographs, marks the beginning of a great adventure in studying and mapping the sky: thanks to its cutting-edge technology, 4MOST can study the light from 2,400 celestial objects simultaneously, every 15 minutes. The Artificial Intelligence Day, organized by AILyS at the Campus Région du numérique, aims to strengthen collaborations between researchers and businesses to foster innovative AI projects in the Lyon–Saint-Étienne area. Supported by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, the event features conferences and thematic workshops focused on key fields such as health, chemistry, security, and digital frugality.

A themed breakfast event was held in the salons of Lyon’s City Hall on July 4th a part of the COLT 2025 conference held in partnership with AILyS, a center of excellence in artificial intelligence at the Lyon-Saint-Étienne university site, which includes ENS de Lyon. Here’s a look back at this gathering, which brought together specialists from around the world and highlighted the region's and Lyon-Saint-Étienne’s vibrancy in innovation and research in artificial intelligence.

Lyon, 8 July 2025 - ENS de Lyon, the CNRS, Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, ITEN and the French National Research Agency (ANR) have announced the launch of the AMIE LabCom (Analysis of Materials and Interfaces for Energy). This strategic partnership, supported by the ANR with €363,000 in funding, brings together academic research and industrial innovation to push the boundaries of ITEN all-solid-state battery performance, sustainability, and eco-responsibility.

Lyon's research stands out in the new post-quantum era. Two algorithms designed by Damien Stehlé are among the 3 standards published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 2024.
Let's take a look back at a game-changing innovation.

Supported by a consortium of eleven institutions, the Lyon-Saint-Étienne university's artificial intelligence center of excellence follows on from the “AILyS” project submitted in 2023 as part of the France 2030 investment plan. In particular, it will pool the skills of its members, improve coordination and provide a gateway for external partners.

Initiated by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation in partnership with Bpifrance, the i-Lab innovation competition aims to encourage the development of French Deep Tech companies. Congratulations to the 2024 winners and, in particular, to the two researchers from our laboratories.

Alice & Bob and research partners granted €16.5 million in public funding to make quantum computing 10 times cheaper. Alice & Bob is the first company ever to receive all four innovation grants from the French State.

Laclarée is one of the start-ups that has been hosted in the ENS Lyon incubator. The company develops adaptive glasses to correct presbyopia. These glasses integrate a patented technology of lenses that automatically adjust in optical power so that the object looked at is always clear, whatever the observation distance.

The start-up was matured with the support of the Institute of Functional Genomics of Lyon (IGFL).

ENS de Lyon is the first institution in France to invest in the only instrument in the world that allows the simultaneous manipulation and visualization of interactions between single biomolecules in real time.
8 teams in 3 laboratories – LPENSL, LBMC and RDP – are now working with this instrument.

The French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation presented ENS de Lyon with the national 2019 Higher Education teaching award “Passion Enseignement et Pédagogie” designed to encourage institutional commitment to the pursuit of excellent, innovative university teaching and learning. ENS de Lyon won in the "Internationalization" category, for its international “Transatlantic Translation Workshop”.

Vance Bergeron, Ane Aanesland, Livio de Luca, and Orphée Cugat are the 2019 CNRS Innovation Medallists. Since 2011, this CNRS prize has rewarded researchers for their work in the technological, therapeutic, economic, and social fields.

Molsid, has been awarded the Novacité label and will thus benefit from personalized monitoring by the Lyon Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and from specific assistance for the management of its company.

Vidium was created in December 2018 by Sami Bou Antoun, CEO, and Arnaud Bonnaffoux, CSO and former doctoral student at the Laboratory of Biology and Modelling of the Cell (LBMC).
