This 3-year joint degree offers outstanding students the opportunity to obtain 2 Master’s diplomas:
- Master’s degree in Science, Technology, Health, with a major in Computer Science, Fundamental Computer Science program co-accredited by UCBL and ENS de Lyon.
- Master’s in Science (MSc) in Communication Systems from EPFL – Accredited by the CTI, the official accreditation commission for all French engineering degrees.

Conditions to obtain both degrees:
To obtain the Master’s from ENS de Lyon/UCBL in the framework of this double degree, 120 ECTS credits are required, including 30 credits from the 90 credits obtained and validated by the EPFL.
To obtain the EPFL Master's degree in the framework of the double degree with ENS de Lyon/UCBL, 120 ECTS credits are required, including 30 credits from the 90 credits obtained and validated by the EPFL.
For EPFL students:
- At EPFL : 2 semesters - Courses - 60 ECTS
- At ENS de Lyon: 1 semester - Courses - 30 ECTS
- At EPFL : 1 semester - Internship
- At ENS de Lyon: 1 semester - Courses - 30 ECTS
- 1 semester - Master's project in a laboratory - 30 ECTS
For ENS de Lyon/UCBL students:
- At ENS de Lyon: 2 semesters - Courses and internship - 60 ECTS
- At EPFL: 2 semesters - Courses - 60 ECTS
- At EPFL : 1 semester - Internship
- 1 semester - Master's project in a laboratory - 30 ECTS
Admission
Entry requirements
Admission conditions EPFL Students:
- Students applying for a double degree program must have obtained a Bachelor's degree from EPFL with a general average of at least 5.0.
- At the time of the application, they must be enrolled in the first year of the Master’s in Bioengineering or Master’s in Science and Biotechnology.
Admission conditions for ENS de Lyon Students:
- Candidates must have obtained a degree in Computer Sciences, on the Fundamental Computer Science program, co-organized by ENS de Lyon and the UCBL.
- At the time of the application, they must be enrolled in the first year of the Master’s in Computer Science, on the Fundamental Computer Science program – co-accredited between the ENS de Lyon and the UCBL.
Language requirements: Language level required: a minimum level of B2 in English. Courses are taught in English.
Application process
For ENS de Lyon students:
- Interview with the teaching team from the Computer Science Master’s degree program. Approval will be formalized by a letter of recommendation to be included in the application file at EPFL.
- Notify the director of the Attachment Department concerning your application for validation in your study plan.
- The preselected student applies for the Master’s at EPFL according to the following calendar and procedure: http://master.epfl.ch/candidature
- The student registers his/her application with the International Mobility Service of the ENS of Lyon by completing the online form efore January 15 or April 15: Application Form at ENS de Lyon
Amongst the documents to download, please replace the requested motivation letter with a copy of the file forwarded to the EFPL.
