Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon is proud to be recognized in this year’s global university rankings, showcasing its continued growth and excellence across key areas such as international outreach, alumni achievements, and research impact.

Here are some notable rankings:

  • Times Higher Education (THE) The world’s best small universities 2024 places our school as #1 in France and #7 globally, putting ENS de Lyon in the Top 10 worldwide.
  • In 2025 edition of the QS World University Ranking, which ranks top global universities, ENS de Lyon takes 5th place in France, for the 7th consecutive year. It is to note that this year’s edition of the ranking was the largest to date, implying increased competition.
  • ENS de Lyon is more than excited to be included in 2024 Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking), one of the most recognized global university rankings, and particularly rejoices in its progression to 5th place in France in the “Alumni” criterion, which evaluates the number of alumni who have won a Nobel Prize or Fields Medal.

It is worth mentioning that in QS Rankings

  • Our school has ranked 1st in France and has kept its position in the world's Top 60 for the Citation Per Faculty Ratio since 2022, showing the strength of the research at ENS de Lyon.
  • This year’s ranking places us as 3rd in France for International Faculty Ratio in World Ranking and 1st in France for Outbound Exchange Students in QS Europe Ranking, indicating attractiveness of the institution on the global and European level which nourishes a diverse and collaborative teaching and research environment.
