The QS 2025 World University Ranking was published on June 04, 2024. Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon affirms its position as France's leading institution in terms of research productivity.
ENS de Lyon, France's leading institution for research productivity
The 2025 edition of the QS World University Ranking, published on June 4, 2024, is the largest ever, featuring over 1,500 higher education establishments. For the 7th year running, ENS de Lyon holds 5th rank in France.
This position is due in part to the quality of research at ENS de Lyon. Since 2022, our school has ranked 1st in France and in the world's Top 60 for the Citation Per Faculty Ratio, a measure of the relative intensity and volume of research, taking into account institute size. This measure, which reflects research strength, accounts for 20% of the world ranking.
Another important measure is the International Faculty Ratio, indicating the attractiveness of the institution, with benefits in terms of the research and teaching diversity and collaboration. ENS de Lyon ranks 3rd in France for this ratio.
Lyon, France's second-best student city
Shortly after its World University Ranking, QS released its 2025 ranking of the Best Student Cities on June 18. Still in the world's Top 50, Lyon remains the 2nd best French city after Paris in which to live and study.
