In this book, the authors offer readers from all backgrounds clarification on the many concepts currently used in relation to environmental issues: education for sustainable development, ecological transition, climate emergency, anthropocene, sustainability, durability, and biodiversity preservation. These terms often originate from different fields of knowledge and are too often confused. This tenth volume in the collection brings together six contributions that examine the foundations and possible directions of education for ecological transition in schools.

The texts explore, in particular, the tension between technical adjustments to existing programmes and the need for a more radical transformation of the education system to address contemporary environmental issues. They address the pedagogical, epistemological and political challenges of this integration, while analysing the professional attitudes that this implies for teachers.

This collection is, in a way, a plea for a more critical, political and emancipatory approach to education, drawing on contributions from multiple disciplines in order to initiate a genuine educational transformation commensurate with social and ecological emergencies.
