Biography 

Xiao Su is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) after earning his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at MIT under the supervision of Professors T. Alan Hatton and Timothy F. Jamison. His thesis focused on organometallic redox interfaces for selective electrochemical separations. Prior to that, he received a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, graduating with distinction and on the Dean’s Honors List.

Collaboration with the Chemistry Laboratory

Professor Xiao Su’s visit to ENS de Lyon offers a strategic opportunity to initiate a high-level scientific collaboration between his group at the University of Illinois and the Chemistry Laboratory. A recognized expert in electrochemical separations and redox-active materials, he brings experimental expertise that complements the laboratory’s strengths in thermodynamics, calorimetry, and molecular modeling. His stay will support joint exploration of critical topics such as pollution remediation, recovery of valuable elements, and sustainable chemistry, while laying the groundwork for long-term international collaborations and academic exchanges.
