The École normale supérieure de Lyon had the honor of awarding the status of Doctor Honoris Causa to Joseph E. Stiglitz, the American economist, Professor at Columbia University, and 2001 winner of the Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel.

The 2020 Bôcher Memorial Prize will be awarded to Laure Saint-Raymond on January 16, 2020, during the Joint Prize Session at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Denver.

On Monday, October 21, 2019, the Chemistry Laboratory officially opened its new premises. Now all laboratory staff are in the M6 building on the Monod campus.

The prestigious Simons Foundation of New York has announced funding for an international project to revisit the fundamental problems of fluid turbulence using statistical mechanics.

The members of the Michel Serres Institute of ENS de Lyon pay tribute to the philosopher who passed away on June 1, 2019.

By decree of the President of the Republic on May 31, 2019, Mr. Jean-François Pinton was reappointed President of École normale supérieure de Lyon, as from June 5, 2019, for a five-year period.

Nadège Hilairet, former student at the ENS de Lyon and PhD at the Geology Laboratory of Lyon - Earth, Planets, Environment, now working at Université de Lille, received the 2019 Research Excellence Award of the European Mineralogical Union (EMU).

At the very end of a high-level final, the team of physics students from ENS Lyon finished second in the International Physicists' Tournament 2019, which was held from April 21 to 26 at EPFL in Switzerland.

After winning the French Physicists' Tournament 2019 in February, the team from ENS de Lyon is now competing in the International Physicists' Tournament 2019 at the EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) in Lausanne (Switzerland). Good luck to them!

On 22 March 2019, ENS de Lyon received the "HR excellence in research" label (HRS4R) from the European Commission for its European HR strategy for researchers.

Mumps Technologies (Mumps Tech) has been founded in January 2019 by Jean-Yves L'Excellent, Inria researcher at the Computer Science Laboratory (Lip) of ENS de Lyon, Chiara Puglisi, transferand innovation engineer, and Patrick Amestoy, professor at Toulouse INP.
