With this award, MPIDS acknowledges the long-term intensive cooperation between the internationally renowned physicist and the departments of the institute.

The David Linton Award is given to a geomorphologist who has made a leading contribution to the discipline over a sustained period. The winner is invited to present the Linton Lecture, which is one of the central elements of the AGM.

"Human Frontier Science Program" Research Grants provide 3 years of support for international teams involving at least two countries. Preference is given to intercontinental collaborations. All team members are expected to broaden the character of their research compared to their ongoing research programs and interact with teams bringing expertise that is very different from their own so as to create novel approaches to problems in fundamental biology.

The challenge: Students have to make their thesis topic easily understandable in clear, concise and convincing French or English – and with the help of only one slide! Participants are filmed under competition conditions, and a multidisciplinary jury chooses finalists based on the videos, rating each participant’s performance according to the criteria in the official rules
