Honors and awards

This award annually recognizes significant contributions to the field of mathematical physics.

Krzysztof Gawedzki

CNRS Research Director Emeritus, Krzysztof Gawedzki is a member of the Theoretical Physics team of the Laboratoire de Physique de l'ENS de Lyon (LPENSL, UMR5672 CNRS/ENS de Lyon).
A specialist in mathematical physics, he studied field theory and turbulent transport.

Dannie Heineman Prize for Mathematical Physics

Krzysztof Gawędzki and Antti Kupiainen (Professor of Mathematics at the University of Helsinki) are the two winners of the Dannie Heineman Prize for Mathematical Physics 2022. This prize rewards the work they carried out together in the 1980s and 1990s on the mathematical foundations of quantum field theory. They turned to the renormalization group method used in physics to study phase transitions and developed it into a mathematically rigorous analysis tool of quantum field theory and statistical mechanics, especially to construct certain renormalizable theories.
