Overview
The Biosciences course of the Master of Biology aims to offer a generalist and high-level training in biology, relying heavily on research.
A Multidisciplinary approach is a crucial point of the training, students choose optional electives (UE) in very diverse fields such as evolutionary sciences, immunology and microbiology, development or cellular biophysics. During their M2 year, students also participate in a practical UE of their choice (1- Confocal microscopy and quantification in 2-4 dimensions, 2- electron microscopy, 3- bio-modeling or 4- data analysis from massive sequencing) which allows them to be trained in the technologies currently used in research. Although generalist, the Biosciences program gives a certain specialization through the choice of optional Electives (UE) and internships in laboratories (18 weeks in M1 and 20 weeks in M2).
The training offers students an international opening: all the theoretical courses of the UE of M2 are given in the form of seminars in English and most often the follow-up of a research internship in a foreign country.
The Biosciences course of the Master’s in Biology is aimed at students from a Biology Bachelor as well as engineering schools, and students from equivalent international training.
Curriculum
Theoretical and practical optional electives (UE) enable students to choose courses from those offered by the Biosciences course at Semester 1 (M1) and Semester 3 (M2).
Compulsory electives (UE) give students general professional skills: English (classical courses in S1 and S3, courses focusing on learning science communication in Semester 2 and Semester 4), the place of science in society (Semester 1), science communication (Semester 2 and Semester 4).
Semester 2 includes an 18-week internship in a research laboratory. Semester 4 includes an internship of 20 weeks.
